As you get older, you might find yourself forgetting things more often. Then the questions start. “Is this normal?” and “Is there a way to keep my memory in top shape for years to come?”
After all, your brain is not being exercised as much as it used to be when you were in school and constantly learning new things. But even if you aren’t in school and working at a job that brings on new things every day, there are a variety of things you can do to help keep your brain in tip-top shape. If you want to increase your brain power, consider the following tips:
Change your diet – Eating foods such as strawberries, blueberries, and spinach can help improve your memory. Loading up on vitamin C can also improve your memory, so go ahead and have an extra glass of orange juice in every morning or add a vitamin supplement to your daily routine. Other memory-enhancing foods include milk, black-eyed peas, kidney beans, potatoes, broccoli, tofu, bananas, mangos, and honey, which have all been shown to contain the necessary nutrients to increase your brainpower.
Stock up on water – Drinking lots of water will help keep your brain from getting dehydrated. The brain is 85% water, so keeping it soaking wet will help keep your brain energized and performing at its best.
Repeat things to keep from forgetting them – It is a fact that repeating something over and over will keep it in your memory.
Keep learning – Even though you are no longer in school, you can still learn new things. Make it a point to learn a new thing every day, and your brain will stay stronger, and you will stay wiser. Take a class at the local club or community college. Or simply head online, and find a wealth of information on any subject matter that captures your attention.
Exercise your brain – There are a variety of brain exercises designed to test your mental skills and keep your mind sharp. You can find these challenges on the Internet and even on your phone. Make it a point to complete at least one challenge each day. Try a brain game, or invest in Sodoku or crossword books.
Following a healthy diet and challenging your brain can help you increase your brainpower. Just because you are getting older does not mean you have to sacrifice your brainpower. After all, with age comes wisdom.
